BIE in the newsBIE Sponsors CBI SummitBIE were headline sponsors of the CBI Summit on ‘Productivity in Public Services’ on 24th January 2007. Speakers included Rt Hon Tony Blair MP, Rt Hon Patricia Hewitt MP, Richard Lambert (Director General CBI), Michael O’Higgins (Chair Audit Commission), Sir Michael Lyons, David Nicholson (CEO NHS), Lord Victor Adebowale, Sir Peter Gershon, Brendan Barber (General Secretary TUC) and Stuart Cain (Director BIE Interim Executive). The summit examined the future of public services and the next steps in mixed service provision, in particular:
BIE presented to the session on ‘Management exchange between the private and public sectors’ chaired by Dr William Moyes (Exec. Ch. Independent Regulator of NHS Foundation Trusts). Stuart Cain described the role that senior interim executives are playing in leading major change programmes in Central Government Departments, Agencies and NDPBs. He went on to outline the specific advantages of interims namely: prior experience in the particular situation being confronted, knowledge of ‘industry best practice’, instant credibility as a leader, objectivity, focus on delivery and a planned exit.
