Mori HR Directors' Dinner Discussion on Interim Management

2.3. Do perceptions of Interims change over time?

Perceptions of interims within an organisation can, and do, change over time. There may be some initial resentment towards the interim, but this can be overcome with the right interim. Respondents agree that this is down to the quality of the interim, the culture fit, how the interim adapts and what purpose the organisation makes of the interim.

It is important that people within the organisation can see a future career path when the interim goes, so they can understand why the interim has been brought in.

“Part of their role is a knowledge transfer issue, so they actually develop the team that they might be working with or supporting or mentoring, be it formally or informally... And as they do that, people can see why we have brought them in, they have got more knowledge and skills than I have, but I have the opportunity to learn from them so that when they go, maybe I am in a better position than I was before”.
